Video surveillance or CCTV (closed circuit television) are video systems in which signals are monitored for surveillance and security purposes.

The video surveillance system is based on strategic placement of cameras and monitoring of the territory on monitors. Since cameras communicate with monitors and/or video recorders via private coaxial cables or wireless communication channels, such a system is called “closed”, indicating that access to the content is restricted only to users of the video surveillance and access control equipment.
